I just have to brag on one of my absolute favorite horse products. It’s the Cashel long face fly mask I use on Hot Rod. HR gets really bad sunburns on his nose and it can become quite painful. Besides using sunscreen everyday, which eventually wears off, this mask entirely protects his nose from the sun whether he’s out grazing or just standing in his run. Here is a picture of his old fly mask that I bought about a year ago. At the time, SmartPak had a special going where if you ordered one in a certain amount of time you got free embroidery! Yippee! I would suggest not using a light pink color to embroider with, though, because it faded so much. I used it everyday through the summer season last year and this year so far. It does take a beating but I feel like it has held up pretty well.
I recently ordered him a new one, but I’m keeping the old one as a back up. The mask can be ordered with or without ears. I opted for no ears, because the flies don’t seem to bother him too much. It has a special hole for his forelock too, which is handy because I’ve had others with no hole and the horse’s face just gets sweaty where their hair sits.
I don’t remember this elastic band being on the old one, but it’s possible that it was. Either way, I really like this feature. Just in case he gets it hooked on something, it will have a little give.
