We’re pretty familiar with unusual weather here in Oklahoma, but this winter and spring have been especially harsh. The cold tempaertrues have continued for far too long, thus creating a lack of our normal spring moisture, and everything is blooming late now. Just a recap of the weather the past few days: Saturday it was 80 degrees, Sunday morning started out about the same and quickly went south with a severe thunderer (including hail), and by Sunday evening it was 40 degrees. Monday we had snow (big ole flakes, I might add) all morning and by the evening it was sunny. Tuesday was fairly normal, minus the hard freeze we had over night and today the wind is blowing so hard that if I put my saddle pad on it will only blow right back up into my face. This is how I feel about that:
So, instead of focusing on my lead changes or my transitions I’m trying to just enjoy riding when I can. I’m an all or nothing kind of gal, so riding once a week is incredibly frustrating to me. It seems inefficient and pointless since when I’m riding I’m usually working towards specific goals. With this strange weather we’ve been having I’m forced to miss my usual riding days and I’ve decided I’m just going to enjoy the moments when I can. We’ve ridden in the pasture more, done more walk-trot work, and even had long grooming-only sessions. It’s been kind of nice to take the pressure off and just relax:) So, take it easy this spring and enjoy your horses!
