I feel like God gives us goals or desires for a reason. I did not wake up and decide that I would like to be competitive in the ranch riding world on my own accord. God designed me and designed this desire to serve some purpose of His own. What is that purpose? Well, I am not 100% sure on that answer, but I do know that the goal will ultimately come to fruition in His own timing and will glorify Him in some way.
I also feel like you can’t sit around and wait for these special dreams. You have to work for them. So, that’s what I’ve been trying to do. Riding time has been limited, unfortunately. I had these big plans to ride Kona through the fall and really focus on his training, but I did not take into account what life would be like with one child in school for the first year and a new born baby. So I resigned to riding when I had the time, only for pleasure. When the time came that it was easier to carve out riding times without sacrificing my entire family’s schedule, I would start up hard and heavy again.
In the meantime, I had this great idea to
meet with someone who could give me some more insight in to the world of ranch riding and possibly assess where I’m at today. I started my search on the AQHA website under their “Professional Horseman” tab. I spotted someone in my state who I had also seen in a few AQHA ranch riding videos online. I nervously called her and just told her I was looking for help, possibly with lessons.
She was so nice and so helpful and I was so excited! Our schedules never seemed to match up, so she had me send her some videos. So I saddled up Hot Rod and had Brad shoot a couple videos of a pattern. Boy, can you learn a lot from watching yourself on video… Here’s a snapshot of one of my videos. More on that later…
It was a windy day and Hot Rod and I were rusty, to say the least, but I can’t wait to share the insight she gave me with you guys and start putting it to use!
