Yesterday we had a dental technician come to the barn to do a few dental exams and float some teeth. It was the perfect opportunity for the little girls who lesson at Rocking E to learn all about horse teeth, and one of those little girls was MY girl! Many times, I take my horses to get routine things done like this while she’s in school. So, I feel like she’s missed out on learning a few important details about horse health care. She really enjoyed it, especially since her lesson pony, Sparky, had a dental exam. This pony is worth his weight in gold. He genuinely loves these girls.
They were allowed to look in his mouth, and stick their hands in to get a good feel–if they wanted to. My girl said yes! Cue swooning heart! You never know about kids–she could have easily said, “no way!” and complained about the sliminess. But, I’m so glad she took a chance and experienced it for herself. It’s moments like these that can build a foundation for knowledge and ignite a passion for horses! I’m so proud of her.
And…this afternoon in the barn, I taught her how to drain the water hose so they don’t freeze! Be still, my heart. I love this little barn-girl-in-training. Yesterday: teeth floating, today: draining hoses, tomorrow: conquering the equestrian world!!
