The air feels electric today. Oklahoma has severe weather foretasted today and the whole town seems jittery. We take tornadoes pretty seriously here, because we’ve seen what they can do, but I’m trying not to let the impending weather leave a cloud over my head today (see, what I did there?). For a couple reasons..
1.) Today is my EIGHTH anniversary with Brad. EIGHT. That’s two years short of a decade. We’ve had some rough times, and some amazingly special times–and there’s no plan of stopping now!
2.) I was approached by a boarder yesterday about attending a stock horse show with her next month. Initially, I thought, “But, I’m not ready. And my horse is fat. And I don’t have chaps. And I’m not ready.” And then, later that evening I looked up the association online and I thought, “I perhaps could be ready. Maybe.” So, this morning I pulled ole Fatty out of the pasture and just tested his memory on the important stuff. My verdict at the end of the ride was that if we had shown today, without much preparation, we would not have totally embarrassed ourselves. Would we have placed? Probably not, but we probably wouldn’t have been the bottom-of-the-barrel either. Probably. I’m not a huge fan of showing, but going to one show is on my goal list for the year, and I could get it done early-on so it doesn’t weigh on me all summer.
I’m going to cross at least one thing off my goal list, though, and finally sit down to read-through and absorb the results my trainer gave me back in the winter after sending her a video. In the video, Hot Rod and I perform one of the AQHA ranch riding patterns. Here is the email she sent back to me:
